I must say, I played this game firstly on my Android phone, and it was really fun since I love games like this one and played other Pixel Dungeon games like Shattered Pixel Dungeon, Skillful Pixel Dungeon, Remixed Pixel Dungeon etc... I am a big fan of this game, and from all these modded Pixel Dungeon which have more stuff than the original one, I like this original.But, this game is actually hard in the beginning, so if you are newbie and keep dying in the start, don't worry you will get in the game when you play 20+ games since every item you got it will be "Secret" so when you equip it or use it, you don't know what will happen which is kinda better for game. I rage so much time when I die, but die when I am farmed with good stuff, big level etc...Things this game needs:1. 3 packs of food in the beginning because player is starving when he comes in Dungeon level 8+.2. Not all items should be secret, it's like from 10 items I obtain, 11 will be secret, so we can lose of it.3. More characters, and every new character we will earn after killing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th Boss etc...4. Summoning enemies, by this I mean on if we want to summon rare enemies which drops good items, we need some seed or something like that to summon it, and let that enemies being more hard to kill.5. More quests please. Earning from quests could be XP and items.6. I saw that Skillful Pixel Dungeon or Remixed Pixel Dungeon have a Town and there you are safe with many houses, and one of these Pixel Dungeon games also have a Story Mode with new things, I and I think PD players would like to see that.7. Skills/Spells, you know, like in MOBA games, everytime we level up we can add an skill or spell and each character to have different skills.8. I haven't played Huntress yet since I am currently fighting Tengu in Dungeon level 10 which is hard (needed 1 hit to kill him and I died, gg), I saw every character have their bonus attack like Warrior have arrows, Mage have staff and Rogue have arrow too so, I don't like that. If you are about to give them bonus weapons, give them all different.9. More enemies and more dungeon levels, 25 is kinda not much when we learn to play and master the game.10. What about picking class and then we can choose between Male and Female gender? Sound good to me.If you, Developers can make this or some of these I said, the game could grow up, think about it.Bugs that should be fixed:1. Sometimes when I play this game more than 30 minutes, when I am fighting my cursor just dissapear and I cannot see where am I clicking so I died like 3-4 times because of that. I found how to solve that, just click "Exit Game" button, but it's hard to click since obviously I cannot see mouse cursor. So after restarting the game, I can see it again.2. Nothing else, lol.I hope this game will grow up since millions of people played it on phone, 5$ on Steam is nice price for such amazing Rogue-like game, just don't screw the game with updates please, like with UI, this current UI is amazing and pretty good.Do I recommend this game? -Yes.Do I rather watch porn or play Pixel Dungeon? -I rather play Pixel Dungeon.:). Amazing! I spent a lot of time on the mobile version, so i decided to waste more time on my PC!. It's one of my favorite games of all time on android. So i just bought to support developer. I hope they keep updating game as often as android version.. I had to buy this as it is without doubt one of my favourite Android games ever. This version is more or less identical to the phone version and retains it's charming simplicity to play but is also very difficult to complete. It contains all the main elements of rogue-likes with the permakill and randomised item powers, but has the nice touch that tomes of mastery and armour kits become permanently available for the character classes after reaching certain levels.Part of my hope in purchasing this is that the dev will continue to add new content now he has some cash behind him. The android version was regularly updated until a few months ago and I would love to see some new stuff going on.My only grumble is that on linux the cursor has a blocky artifact around it which is a minor problem but would be nice to see it fixed.10/10 Would hurl potions of flame at the Dwarf King again.. After logging hundreds of hours of play on my KindleFire with Pixel Dungeon, I am not disappointed with the Steam version at all. I never got the Windows version but was happy to throw payment to the devs for the Steam version for the past fun I had with the game. The graphics are charming and look great even for pixel characters, if you have been with this for awhile you know the extra efforts put into little things like backround, lighting and etc over the bunch of updates it had since being created. Now it's the norm "rougelike" and permadeath that will leave you tearing your hair out most times, but still drawing you back for more. Having great armor and weapons but dying of hunger is a common thing, or having lardders of food and getting beat to hell by the monsters. The number of times I have died to a gnoll on the 2nd level is almost uninstall worthy. For those of you from the early PC days, and I don't mean Starcraft or Diablo, but C64 days of yore and where most games were permadeath (unless you pulled the disk out of the drive after you died quick enough or created another character disc) there was a shining creation of a game called Sword of Fargoal. Pixel could be the direct great, great grandson of Fargoal, both share many traits and each their own also, which when I found Pixel I was brought back to those great days and fell in love with the game. The game is easy to learn and can be played for hours or a few quick minutes with auto save when you quit. Classes play different as a difficulty system somewhat with added bonuses for each class. Pretty much click where you want to go, click to pick up, click to attack/throw/use item etc, very nice for a sit back and relax game. Potions and scrolls have to be identified or fingers crossed used to find out what they do, sometimes with horrible results. I know there are plenty of reviews on this game allready with gameplay and pros vs cons but for me it is a rekindling of my great years playing PC games which were designed to be hard and have days or months of playing time with no internet faq or walkthrough to help you with the game. This is a great game period, worth the $5, for me yes and a review if it's worth the money, very much so. Buy it and enjoy.. one of the best roguelikes out there , 1st time i played it was in my cell phone , after that watabou made the scource code availiable to public there are many spin offs , and since steam has decided to take it , i couldnt resist. Epic dying and starting all over again and again.. I am happy to see this game on PC :). The Good:Great replay valueLots of diverse items to use throughout the playthrough4 Character Classes to choose from; Warrior/Rogue/Huntress/Mage 8 Specialty Sub-classes/Masteries; Gladiator/Berserker for Warrior, Battlemage/Warlock for Mage, Freerunner/Assassin for Rogue and Sniper/Warden for HuntressScroll of Wipe Out = Tactical Shop RobberyThe Bad:Durability System; can be systematically abused by the AI even when you conserve items to help prevent thisNo Save, even a soft interval save at bosses, 1 run or your doneSome items I feel need to be tweaked a little for balance; Huntress Ranged weapon for instanceAnkh, while seemingly attractive, mostly punishes you for being used, especially in later levels where its needed mostThe Ugly: -Conserve your upgrade scroll when not using them! I cannot stress this enough, which means every time you run into a fire you run risk of burning them up & until you can buy (or rob) the Scroll Holder from the shopkeeper. Later levels will quickly have you fumbling with broken weapons that don't work well on monsters even if you are the same experience level they are, you invested a ton of resources into a great weapon/armor, don't waste it now!-Soft Interval saves at Bosses would be nice, not required as some I have talked to argued it would make the game TOO easy.-The Ankh should really let you recover some/all items from your previous corpse if you get resurrected by it, getting killed at level 22 then having 0 items at that point means either essentially killing yourself (as you now likely have no means of combatting durability loss in items or healing or eating) or starting over. Either way, back to the main menu.-Huntress Ranged Boomerang should not drop from your inventory if your are resurrected from the Ankh either, I know typically only equipped items make it through a resurrection, but since you can have a melee weapon & still use the boomerang (the main featured weapon for Huntress I remind) why must it be forever gone also? Its not like I can find another one on my way down....-Scroll of Wipe Out, one of the few things that I feel are OP because it can be abused also but unlike other items this actually works in your favor & most times you need that to balance some of the other issues I mentioned. I keep my SWO for shopkeeper levels, I sell all my useless crap to the shopkeeper then BAM! Killed all the monsters on that level currently(for a hefty XP boost) & rid myself of a no-good, overcharging shopkeeper and help myself to all his wonderful (and now free!) items, including the healing potions & expensive bags they want you to buy. Shopkeepers here like that reminded me of Ripley in the movie Aliens; "You know Burke I don't know what species is worse, you don't see them screwing each other over for a damned percentage". Who the bloody hell tries to profit from the depths of a monster ridden hole anyhow? But I digress.....Overall: Great & entertaining but nothing legendary, especially in the graphics department, don't look for shiny graphic 'oh wow' moments here. I played this mostly on my phone before buying it here on Steam during the Holiday Sale for $3. I think normally its $5, but still well worth it. Very good game. I recommend it to everyone who like roguelike type of games.. I have sink counteless hour on the mobile version, but it's as good as the pc one, honestly this game is a master piece. And way harder than what it looks. Anyone looking for a challenge should play this!
